So, I’ve written article about Wikipedia<\/a>, because it’s a great source of information.\u00a0 I’ve written about about APIs<\/a>, because it’s way to autoscale.<\/p>\n

What if you could combine those 2 concepts–or, even better, for your database-savvy folks, query data using SQL?\u00a0 After some mindful web surfing, I across quite a powerful source of data.\u00a0 It’s called Freebase<\/a> (formerly known as Metaweb).\u00a0 Check out this video first.<\/p>\n

Freebase is very comprehensive wiki of metadata, organized into “entities.”\u00a0 The video above explains the concept of an “entity” pretty clearly.\u00a0 Freebase is free for non-commercial and commercial (woohoo!) uses and can already consists over ~$20MM entities.\u00a0 You easily extract data from Freebase by querying using MQL<\/a> or through the Freebase API<\/a>.<\/p>\n
